Black spots and high-risk areas

These are the places in the Lake District fells where people most often get hurt, or where the ground is serious enough that only experienced walkers should be there. They're shown on our maps too, with the full line of each section.

• Black spot A record of accidents, published by Mountain Rescue. Avoid unless you're with a professional.
• High risk Experienced walkers only, and not in bad weather.

This is guidance, not a guarantee. Conditions change, especially in winter: check the forecast, know your limits, and turn back if in doubt.
